Talk Green Future: From a national platform to international debate standards

Following multiple intense and dynamic rounds, Talk Green Future Season 3, organized by the For Green Future Foundation under Vingroup, has left a clear mark not only in terms of scale but also in professional quality. The competition has contributed to elevating public speaking and debate movements on environmental issues in Vietnam, while gradually opening pathways for young people to engage with international standards.

A bridge connecting youth with global thinking

A notable highlight of Talk Green Future Season 3 is that the English division, for the first time, adopted the British Parliamentary format. This marks a significant advancement, enabling participants to become more familiar with and gain deeper exposure to international debating standards.

Hyewon Rho, Technical Advisor of the English division at Talk Green Future Season 3, Executive Director of Debate For All, and former Head Coach of the Vietnam national team for the World Schools Debating Championship, commented that the competition has effectively served as a bridge to spread green messages and bring young people closer to global thinking. She noted that in the Final Round of the English division, four teams debated simultaneously, allowing participants not only to engage with a single perspective but also to access multiple dimensions of arguments from six young speakers on the topic of green mobility.

Hyewon Rho, Technical Advisor of the competition and Executive Director of Debate For All, directly evaluated the English division and expressed strong appreciation for the quality and capabilities of this year’s participants.

Sharing a similar view, Juseung Yi, Chief Executive Officer of Debate For All, expressed particular admiration for the participants’ professional quality. “I have judged many international competitions, but the standard here is truly high. I could give it a full score of five out of five,” he said.

He also noted his surprise at the participants’ enthusiasm and level of research investment. Notably, although this was their first experience with the British Parliamentary format, their debating performance was already at a high level, demonstrating global perspectives and practical solutions.

Highlighting what sets the competition apart from other debate platforms, Kithmina Hewage, Senior Policy Advisor at the Asian Charity and Social Centre in Hong Kong, said that the competition has established a distinct identity by focusing entirely on sustainability and environmental issues. This direction not only differentiates Talk Green Future from many international competitions but also fosters clear improvement among participants across each round.

In the English division, team Cropspiracy, comprising Cao Khanh Nguyen and Ho Duc Minh from Nguyen Sieu High School in Ha Noi, won the championship title.

Ho Duc Minh noted that the training process helped the team refine both their thinking and presentation skills.

“We practiced extensively and learned to speak more slowly, clearly and coherently so that the judges could follow more easily. The BP format helped us think from multiple perspectives and approach issues more deeply,” Minh said.

Team Cropspiracy, comprising Cao Khanh Nguyen and Ho Duc Minh from Nguyen Sieu High School in Ha Noi, demonstrated debate skills and thinking aligned with international standards, securing the championship title in the English division of Talk Green Future Season 3.

Strong potential for regional expansion

Following the success of Season 3, international judges expressed optimism about the competition’s potential to expand across the region.

Hyewon Rho expressed her expectation that Season 4 will attract more diverse voices from Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, while also encouraging debate teams from South Korea to participate, describing the competition as an ideal platform for young people to exchange ideas on sustainable development.

Juseung Yi also hopes to see more Korean students join Talk Green Future, emphasizing that it is one of the few competitions in the region with a strong focus on global and sustainability issues.

From a regional perspective, Wen-Yu Weng, Co-founder and National Team Coach of the Chinese Taipei Debate Federation, noted that Southeast Asia is a region with strong potential for economic growth and sustainable innovation. In this context, Talk Green Future is expected to play an important role in shaping a generation capable of dialogue, collaboration and addressing sustainability challenges in the future.

According to Kithmina Hewage, the competition also holds strong potential to expand regionally, moving toward global recognition and becoming a platform that leads dialogue on climate change.

The Talk Green Future public speaking and debate competition is one of the key initiatives under the Green Education Program, part of the cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Education and Training and the For Green Future Foundation – Thien Tam Foundation under Vingroup for the 2023–2028 period.
